A New Hampshire house committee is pushing for a few friendly amendments to a bill that was approved in February to legalize adult use cannabis. The New Hampshire House Ways and Means Committee voted in favor to reduce the tax that would be applied to cannabis cultivators from 15% to 12.5%. The wholesale tax is an attempt to avoid creating a cannabis sales tax at the register. Representatives also increased the amount of money that would be allocated to the state Liquor Commission over a two year period from 8 million to 15 million. According to reporting from The New Hampshire Union Leader, Representatives believe that the nearly double sized budget is necessary due to the upfront costs associated with staffing and implementing the necessary software systems to operate this new arm of the state Liquor Commission. The updates must receive the support of the full house in order to take effect.
