Connecticut lifts their retail cannabis licensing cap
When lawmakers first legalized adult-use cannabis in Connecticut licenses for dispensaries would be limited to one per 25,000 people. The rule had become a headache for local officials who were unable to determine for themselves the best number of establishments for their community. With the restriction now eliminated cities and towns have more flexibility in welcoming cannabis businesses. Social equity applicants in Connecticut can also benefit from the increased opportunity that eliminating this license cap provides.
Connecticut recently received over 15,000 submissions to their adult-use lottery for dispensary licenses. Adult-use cannabis sales are expected to begin by the end of 2022. The lottery application for product manufacturers ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on June 8, 2022.
