Former Fall River Mayor Tries to Avoid Jail

Former Fall River Mayor tries to stay out of prison

Over the past several months Jasiel Correia has been granted several continuances to avoid the start of his six-year sentence stemming from his May 2021 conviction for fraud and extortion. The Judge presiding over the case denied Correia’s latest request to be granted permission to stay out of prison while his appeal is heard. This has led Correia to file a motion with the First District Court of Appeals to have his freedom pending the appeal of his criminal conviction.

Correia’s team believes that certain arguments could result in a new trail or more charges to be overturned. If unsuccessful Correia is due to report to prison to begin his sentence on April 22nd.
