Shortly after 3pm on Tuesday May 24th the Salem Fire Department was called to respond to a fire at 39 Norman Street. The mixed-use building is three stories tall and situated in a neighborhood near downtown within close proximity of residences and other businesses. Located inside the building is one of the state’s independent cannabis testing laboratories, CDX Analytics. According to early reports the fire and smoke began to pour from the roof of the structure which quickly turned into a second alarm fire. The City of Lynn Fire Department sent mutual aid to help contain the flames.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time. The flames started on a porch that rests on a lower roof of the building. The fire was extinguished by 4pm according to Salem Fire Department radio communications with extensive damage left to the roof of the building. We are happy to report that the cannabis testing lab was not damaged according to an update found on the CDX Analytics website.
