Maine appoints new Director of Cannabis Policy

Maine selects John Hudak as new Chief cannabis regulator

The search for a qualified candidate to fill the vacancy left by Eric Gundersen’s departure has concluded with the selection of John Hudak as Maine’s new Director of Cannabis Policy. Over the past ten years, he has covered election campaigns and election-related issues, legislative-executive interactions, and state and federal marijuana policy for the Brookings Institute. Hudak is also the author of Marijuana: A Short History a 2016 book that examines the history and politics of the cannabis plant in the United States and across the globe.

In a tweet Hudak announced that his first day at the new job will be December 30th. Maine’s Commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services Kirsten Figueroa appointed Hudak to his new position and welcomed his expertise on cannabis policy. The announcement comes after the former Director of Cannabis Policy, Erik Gundersen, left the agency to run a cannabis consulting firm in October.
