Maine law changes rules for cannabis use on parole
A new law in Maine is now in effect that has set a standard for courts that will allow most on parole to responsibly use cannabis. According to a blog post from NORML, the law “An Act to Provide That the Legal Use or Possession of Cannabis Is Not a Violation of Probation, Parole or Pretrial Release” recently went into effect and established when the courts can order an individual to abstain from cannabis use. Under the new rules the court will only be able to sanction those who engage in excessive use of alcohol, cannabis, or illegal drugs. According to the law the Judge in the case will have the ultimately authority decide what is excessive after facts are presented.
