15% tax discussed for New Hampshire cannabis

New Hampshire talks about 15% tax rate for legal weed

As a proposal to legalize cannabis for adults age 21 years and older moves forward in New Hampshire lawmakers are having discussions about what the tax rate would be. Cannabis sales were proposed as an addition to the state’s 8.5% rooms and meals tax to avoid creating a new tax, but that idea failed to gain traction. Lawmakers are now looking at a 15% tax rate on cannabis cultivation according to reporting from WMUR. The bill currently in review would put the authority to regulate the cannabis industry with New Hampshire’s liquor commission. Recently a separate bill that would allow for limited home cultivation of cannabis for medical marijuana patients and their caregivers received a favorable vote from a House Committee.
