Northampton cannabis cap does not have support of Mayor

Northampton’s Mayor won’t support a cannabis retail cap

The City Council in Northampton recently exercised their right to limit the number of adult-use cannabis dispensaries that will open in the city. The Council passed an ordinance with six councillors voting in favor and three opposed to cap the number of dispensaries at twelve. Northampton currently holds the record for having the second highest number of cannabis dispensaries for a Massachusetts with eleven dispensaries. The ordinance does contain an exemption for social equity program participants and economic empowerment priority applicants who seek permission to operate in the city.
