Rhode Island lawmakers frustrated with cannabis commission delays

Months have gone by and Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee has still not announced his picks for the newly formed Cannabis Control Commission. The agency is tasked with regulating the cannabis industry and will be responsible for issuing future licenses. Some lawmakers are becoming frustrated by the fact that the Commission members have not been announced publicly. The delay is stalling the future growth of the Rhode Island cannabis industry. In January Governor McKee claimed that his picks were going through a rigorous background check but would be announced soon. According to reporting from the Boston Globe, the Governor was given three names from the House Speaker but declined to choose anyone from that list. The advisory board designed to make recommendations to the Cannabis Control Commission has also fallen behind schedule.
