Rhode Island is experiencing record-breaking marijuana sales for the fourth month in a row. In August 2023, the state saw total retail cannabis sales soaring over $9.5 million. The sales for recreational cannabis alone surpassed $7 million, outpacing the medical cannabis figures, which stood at $2.64 million. Rhode Island’s adult-use cannabis market is relatively new, having launched in December of 2022.
According to reporting from Marijuana Moment, this trend is occurring in several other states as well including Montana, New Mexico, and Connecticut, all with strong sales records in August. With the growth of the cannabis market in Rhode the average purchase amount has experienced a drop from $32 in December 2022 to $25 in August 2023. At the same time, the number of active medical marijuana patients has declined from 15,000 to 11,195.
