Bill filed to improve VA medical cannabis policy

Rep. Seth Moulton of the Massachusetts 6th congressional district recently filed legislation in Congress to establish a policy on medical cannabis for the Department on Veterans Administration. Rep. Moulton is a former Marine Corps officer who believes in taking steps to improve the lives of veterans across the country.

The bill would require healthcare providers at the VA to acknowledge medical cannabis use as a legitimate form of treatment. The bill would also protect veterans from losing their benefits and providers who discuss cannabis use from repercussions.

Today many veterans choose not to discuss their medical cannabis use with VA officials, due to the federal illegality, and the risk of losing benefits. The stigma leaves veterans across the United States from accessing this option which could otherwise help them live free of pain or anxiety.
