Three billion dollars in adult-use cannabis sales

Massachusetts reaches 3 billion in adult-use cannabis sales

Massachusetts opened its first adult-use cannabis dispensaries in November of 2018. Since then there have been over three billion dollars in sales of adult-use cannabis products. This announcement comes eight months after the Massachusetts cannabis industry reached the two billion dollar mark. As of May 17th, 2022 $3,001,846,490 in gross sales have been generated. According to the Commission the total sales generated this year on April 20th, or 4/20 as it is commonly known, was $5,986,186. This represents a 41% increase compared to the sales generated on April 20th, 2021.

According to the Commission there are 216 marijuana retailers and 11 delivery businesses that currently operate statewide. The Commission makes sales data available to the public through their open data platform. “These sales figures illustrate the steady growth Massachusetts residents expected when they voted to legalize adult-use cannabis in 2016, and the Commission was appointed in 2017,” said Commission Executive Director Shawn Collins.
